Annika Larssons viking exibition in Enköping
You may have heard about Annika Larsson before. She published her theory about a ribbon from Birka containing the word ”Allah”. The news got spread all over the world while some us where really sceptical. And she soon got allot of critisism. Why? Because the way she ”found” the word was by adding patterns on the sides and mirroring it… I think anyone can understand why this is problematic.Me and Johanna wanted to see the exibition in Enköping and see for ourselfs if she would give a better explination. Here are two replicas of card woven ribbons with gold and silver thread inserts on wool warp.
Ps. Yes the ribbons have ”swastikas” on them. Its abviously not about nazism since its from the viking age ,so dont worry. This symbol accures textiles through the history all over scandinavia, baltic and slavic region. We dont use it anymore (exept for replikas) but we cant erase historical artifakts just because somone made it evil. Maybe its time to take it back?
The mirrored picture
Gold plated ”turtle brooches” (spännbucklor).
Nicely made replica of Embroidered silk collar from Valsgärde, Uppland Sweden.
Interpretation of a viking womans outfit. Many things in this was really unclear. There where not enough information and datings on the items and some slightly hazy text about islam vs viking culture and heaven and so on. And then this:
This is clearly viking inspired clothing, but it she didnt say this in the information text?! We nerds can tell but regular people might not understand that this is fantasy. As a archeologist from a university you need to be really clear on these matters is you do an exibition on a museum!Never less, the craft it beutifully executed, and its a fun mixture of different time periods.
Note the embroidery on the neckline! Similar to an embroidery in Birka Grave 735.
The last part of the exibition showed the line of styles we have had from viking age to modern time with all its influences from all over the world.
Traditional swedish kurbits flowers.
A persian (?) pattern printed on a pillow.Enköping museum allso has some other objects. Found some pretty medieval chandeliers to admire.

Istrehågan stone formation and the gokstad pile, Norway
My friend Hans Gunnar showed me some local historical places, Isterhågan stone setting and the Gokstad pile where they found the Gokstad viking ship. Click to se more:
This place really felt magical. Chills!
And then we went to the Gokstad pile in a beatiful bay in Vestfold. The Gokstad ship was made about year 890, and was excavated in 1880. It was a warm sumer that year and wood dries so they fucked up alot of stuff in it.. Today we have much better presevation tecniques. But you can see the ship in Oslo viking ship museum.

Jane Austen exibition on Skokloster castle
Skokloster castle had a Jane austen exibition so me and my mum took a daytrip to visit the castle.
New made clothing from the exibition.
And then some originals:
16th century shoes
I got a bit chocked to see this painting here. I litterly said ”WTF why is this painting HERE?! So aparently swedish soldier stole this Giuseppe Arcimboldo painting, painted in 1590, in Prage or Vienna (?) in the 17th century. Crazy! A painter a little a head of his time..
One of the owners of the castle had a ridiculous collection of armors. This is just a small part of it. The most interesting thing in the collection for me was a hammock made by natives in some south American country.
The great unfinnished hall. The only castle hall in Sweden at least that is still a working place.

A little trip back home to Jämtland
OviksfjällenI took some time to go up to Jämtland were im from to visit my grandparents and friends. Nothing is like home..
When Im not on markets i have weird hair xD but i like it… I have had it like 9 years? This is up on the hill on Frösön called East mountain (Östberget). Fikar (there is really not a good word for that in english!) with a friend.
Dammåhn, BydalenLater me and my grandmother went up to our cabbin in the mountains to pick berries. Specifically clowdberries, the gold of the forest.
Cloudberries. My favourite berry. I could eat a whole jar of jam from it (Mylta)! They only grow on wet Myr, not exacly a swomp but like a Mire? ”Only step on the grass tufts so you dont sink and get stuck!” my grand mother always told me. In some places they put out borads to walk on like this.
The next day we tolk a roadtrip to another place called The Ristafall that I actually never visited before. Jätmland has severall rivers like this. This part of Sweden is a bit like Alaska, mountains, lakes, rivers and forest as long as you can see, filled with wildlife.

Wadköping medieval market 2017
Arboga medieval market is a little cozy market in Örebro, Sweden. Its in the old part of the town where theres still a late 19th century block with shops, a cafe and a museum.
A bit rainy before opening, not so happy about that.
Some music by the medieval band Patrask.
Some not so medieval fruits while listening to the music.

Spring= Tent and furniture fixing
Making a new table for the tent. For this I went and bought the widest boards they had. Its pine and lucky for me it had rain on the last they had so they were a little gray wich i liked but I also got a good price for them because of that. I put them together with just two ribs across underneath with screws. For the stain I used:2/3 linseed oil1/1 terpentineand a splash of tarblack iron oxidered iron oxide (i think..not sure..)
The legs are antique that I traded me. They are cutted into two so this is one half. The only thing I did to them was put som linseed oil/terpentine mix to preserv them. It really brought them back to life.
I love, love, love, the spring!! The nature is exploating with energi and everything comes to life. The flowers are blooming, you can start to smell everything again after the winter and the gras and trees has a strong green tint to them.
My Allium are blooming, soon to be a big beautiful round purple flower.
And finally som fixing on the tent. Had to sew some seems around the edges that i had left.
When I sew outside, on a tent for example, I like to use this sewing machine. It would suprise you how strong it is. You can sew anything from clothing to thick layers of tent fabric. We also have a similar one with electricity that also is good for tents.
